Red Seven

£6.99

While doing a spring clean, I found some copies of the old CD we produced back in 2002. Struktur was a short-lived label with the goal of releasing seven compilations, each representing a color of the rainbow, counting down to zero. The first release was Red Seven. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, and the label dissolved before we could complete the full seven releases. As a result, only Red Seven and Orange Six were ever made. Who knows—maybe one day we’ll get around to doing Yellow Five. It’s hard to believe it’s been more than twenty years since then. We've posted some old reviews below, and you can grab a copy while you can. We’ll also be making copies of Orange Six available soon, along with a few other odds and ends we created at the time.

Thanks for the support over the years!

And a new Manchester label drops in time for the new year, high on aesthetic principle and disciplined with a selection of 6 excellent electronic constructions from the likes of the Marcia Blaine School For Girls, Thought Universe and Kutchi among others. Looking at the decidedly delicious 3” cd with clear plastic surround bringing it to the full 5” dimension, down to the image of Manchester’s notorious Sunley Tower on the cover, this is a debut release with a serious intent on setting itself apart from the slew of electronic compilation labels that land with us almost daily. The track sleection, ultimately, is what really rewards here, each and every cut inspired with excellence of some description and a demand for repeated listening. Marcia Blaine School For Girls bring on ‘Minraud’, another classic Marcia unravelling of texture and definition, before a crisp as crunch electroid beat breaks in and takes us into deep late night intoxication mode. Awesome. Kutchi’s ‘Sciamatchy’, meanwhile, lends itself to fiercer percussion locked in dialectic with a thoughtful underlay of reflective melody and deep, pounding dub basslines. Rough and tumble grinding styles done to perfection! Mask-series verteran Thought Universe brings on more reflective layering of atmosphere and toughness, this time garnished with a killer bassline that runs throughout, bass progressions forming a melodic counterpoint to the found sounds and emissions that surround it. In all, half an hour of classic IDM, conceived and delivered with a freshness and enthusiasm that’s been missing from the scene in quite some time. Ace.

Simon Tonkinson. Boomkat. January 2003

Awesome Manc-tronica. A must for fans of Skam, City Centre Offices and Device, this six track compilation is the first in a series of limited edition CDs from new Manchester label Struktur. Thought Universe steals the show with an incredibly funky slice of IDM complete with rugged beats, atmospheric emissions and a grinding bassline whilst The Marcia Blane School For Girls scoop close second with a perfectly executed piece of electro laced with crispy beats, killer synths and flawless production. Elsewhere, Kutchi fuses pounding percussion with drop-dead-gorgeous melodies, Bovaflux proves hecould beat Boards of Canada hands-down in an ambient techno competition and Buoy delivers an extremely uplifting electro track riddled with crunchy beats and edits. Don‚t sleep on this release. Nine out of Ten.
